The Delicate Dependency by Michael Talbot (1982)

A very unique spin on the vampire trope and definitely one of the best vampire novels i have came across so far. I loved reading this book with my whole heart! I particularly love novels that deal with vampires doing something with the amount of knowledge they ought to have from existing for thousands of years. I was hooked from start to finish, Beautifully written with an intriguing plot.

Its the story about Dr. Gladstone, a scientist from Victorian England accidentally ran over a man (Niccolo) who walked in front of his carriage. He invites Niccolo into his home and before you know it Dr. Gladstone's youngest daughter, Camille, has been kidnaped.

what i love most about this novel is how it contributes to the vampire lore instead of just following the classic vampire tropes and has an alternate history. Even the title of the novel conveys a different meaning in my opinion. When i saw the title for the first time i assumed it meant how vampires are dependent on blood for survival. However upon reading further into the novel i think there is more to that as in this quote from the novel:

"We are all part of a delicate balance, an incredibly complex interconnectedness that extends from our food chains to the rudiments and building blocks of our reality.

The Delicate Dependency by Michael Talbot

It's a fantastic addition to vampire legend and has a very different take on "the work of the vampire". The romantic aspect is minimum but instead an ancient highly evolved species.

My Rating: ★★★★★
